I'm Abby, founder and Director of Your Family's Friend Ltd. A company born in 2024 from a desire to share my knowledge and experience without selling my soul.
But let's be honest... although this is technically a company as far as Company's house and HMRC are concerned, it is very much just me. Offering my time, energy and expertise in the hope that I can demystify the family court system, reduce the stress and anxiety felt by those navigating it, and ultimately improve the outcomes for children.
My professional background is in frontline child protection social work, with several years working for Cafcass as a Family Court Advisor and Children's Guardian. I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work Practice, and a Bachelors degree in Police and Criminal Justice Studies. My extensive experience in Family Court includes working with children and families in complex situations, assessing risk and welfare, and supporting the court to make informed decisions in the best interests of children. As a professional, I have given evidence in court, navigated private and public law proceedings (including 16.4 proceedings), gone through the appeal process up to the High Court, and been involved in complex fact-finding and final hearings. Because of this, I can ensure you are fully prepared for anything that may come up within your family court proceedings.
After experiencing multiple burnouts in frontline social work, I shifted my career to work on my own terms, while still sharing my expertise in a field I am passionate about: family life and children's welfare. I believe in equality, respect, and fairness for everyone involved, with a strong focus on children’s welfare and the importance of supporting healthy relationships between co-parents.
Most importantly, I'm a passionate, empathic person who can't stand to see people disadvantaged by misinformation or inequality. Throughout my career I have witnessed many families and parents struggle with a system that feels completely alien, unsure of their rights, confused by the process, and overwhelmed by what lies ahead. Too often, people feel they have no choice but to spend thousands of pounds on legal representation simply to regain some sense of control. For many, that just isn't realistic.
This is why I do what I do.
I offer clear, calm and expert support at a much lower cost than solicitors or barristers, helping you feel informed, prepared and supported as you move through the family court process. I work alongside you, not above you, and I take the time to explain what's happening, what's expected, and what really matters to the court.
I approach every case with honesty and integrity, with a strong focus on children's welfare, never losing sight of the very real emotional impact these proceedings have on families.
